Teaming up with Amy Prosser, I developed an immersive online website for children and teens, designed to ignite interest in STEM research, especially astronomy. Through techniques like parallax scrolling and gamification, we created an engaging user experience tailored to young learners. Consulting with astronomers ensured the project met educational needs, resulting in a user-friendly interface. Our work utilizes vibrant design to inspire education and innovation for the next generation of STEM enthusiasts.

Introducing STEM education for everyone is paramount, as highlighted by our research, given its role in combating misinformation and promoting general knowledge. The challenge lies in presenting complex content simply and visually engagingly, while also making it relatable to everyday life. Additionally, the importance of personal engagement and accessibility of science for all was emphasized.

The UX research for my project embarked on a comprehensive exploration of the declining interaction between humans and nature within urban landscapes. This process revealed three key insights, indicating how design interventions can strengthen the bond between individuals and nature in urban settings, potentially benefiting both human well-being and the environment.

Our UX research was instrumental in creating an engaging and audience-centric website. Our UX Research yielded crucial insights for crafting a website tailored to our target audience. Surveys and interviews with astronomers revealed that while many young individuals have a keen interest in astronomy, they've had negative experiences with STEM education in school.

Keyfindings

  • Too many negative STEM experiences

  • Making science relatable to everyday life

  • Simplifying complex concepts

  • Promoting interdisciplinary collaboration

  • Making science accessible to all

Our research in STEM education has unveiled crucial insights, notably the prevalent negative perception of STEM subjects. Many individuals carry past negative experiences, dampening their interest and motivation. Overcoming these biases and fostering a positive attitude toward STEM presents a significant challenge. Additionally, there's a pressing need to bridge the gap between scientific concepts and everyday life, making STEM more relatable and engaging for students.
